Michael Wolf

This image was on the front cover of  Michael Wolfs book 'Hong Kong: front door/ back door. I was drawn to this image immediately as it includes bold colour and pattern and yet still includes landscape. In my tutorial I had mentioned the fact that landscape rarely interests me. When I looked at this book I put my own ignorance of landscape and the beauty of this image together. My concept is that we often miss the beauty of landscape because we are simply too rapped up in the modern world and are just not looking. The fabric covers a large majority of this image made me think of representing my idea by blocking out some of the landscape. My original thought was to do this using objects and having them close to the screen or covering a section of the screen. However this could be quite hard as I cannot just choose random objects and they would have to clearly symbolise a distraction from nature and beauty.

This photograph is not really relevant to my context but chose to include it in my research because of the focal length. I think that if I used this technique and had my landscape slightly out of focus it would really put across my point of it being irrelevant and unnoticed. If I choose to use object at the front of my image I could have them in focus to show that the mundane lives are more focused upon than our surroundings.

This was an image that I found very interesting within the book. It is irrelevant to landscape however it does connect to my idea. The way that the plant is shut behind the  bars really shows a disregard for nature and our general unappreciative attitude towards it. If you were to be walking down the street and glanced at this I doubt you would even realise that the plant was there and this is the point that I am trying to put forward about landscape.
