Object: Todd McLellan

Todd McLellan

Todd McLellan is a still life/ motion photographer from Canada. I his newest project he disassembles items such as clocks and type writers and re arranges the pieces neatly to photograph them. Each item has two shots. The first is the neatly arranged image and the other is as if it is exploding. This is achieved by dropping the already disassembled item from a small height and photographing it at a speed with the flash duration set to 1/12,000 of a second to show them in motion.

The items that McLellan photographs are those that e has gathered either from second hand shops, the streets or yard sales. His reasoning for this is that he wanted to 'give them justice, to show what went into making them what they are'. I liked this idea of re-using objects. The objects that i plan to use can easily be sourced in second hand shops or jumble sales so i can take discarded objects and make them into a type of sculpture.

I am going to take photos of cups, saucers and other similar objects but shall break some and make a sculpture out of both the broken and full pieces. The reason that i chose to look at this specific image of McLennan's is because of the composition. I love how the large parts of the camera are at the top and graduates down to the tiniest pieces at the bottom. I could style in my sculpture buy having my largest cups at the top and having the broken shards scattered around at the feet of the other objects.
