Environment: Robert Adams

Robert Adams

'On Signal Hill', Overlooking Long Beach California', 1983

Robert Adams was born in America in 1937. He is a landscape photographer that focus's on the changing landscape of the American west. This image above represents his concern with human destruction of nature. When researching Adams work i found this statement written about him: 'He used his camera to mournfully document what he sees as the fallen state of a former eden'. This sumerises his work perfectly as his photograph have been taken as a reminder of how we are destroying the beauty of nature.

Pastiche

I went walking around Strood and found a field with a singular tree in the middle. This was a good location because a road has been built between the farm land and houses are locates in the right had corner. This shows, as Adams work does, the destruction of nature. The only problem with this image is that there is only one tree and it is a lot fuller than the withered trees in Adams images. It maybe does not have the same atmosphere as Adams photo but this could be due to the sunshine and bold colours. If I went back and photographed this at a different time of day and in black and white It would be more suitable for the pastiche.
